This tool matches the background of a photo or video to any image of the real world. It’s the GeoGuesser trend…but with drag & drop and every photo in the world. Now, this capability has been around for a while with EXIF & other meta data. However, what makes this different is that it doesn’t need any meta data. It just needs the image (and you can even do a ballpark version of this with ChatGPT / Claude). This combined with facial recognition (e.g., PimEyes) and cameras everywhere are sort of…game over for individual action on privacy.

Reducing the number of cameras doesn’t matter. Reducing photos taken of you doesn’t matter. Using some sort of “remove me from the Internet” service does not matter. The infrastructure is there and it’s not going away.

The only option now is collective enforcement of privacy rights via courts, legislation, and cultural norms.
