Tyranny of Dead Ideas by Matt Miller
The Tyranny of Dead Ideas is a book that challenges the conventional wisdoms of our society. The author, Matt Miller, argues that the things we think we know are actually holding us back and preventing us from unleashing a new prosperity.
Miller introduces the concept of “dead ideas” which are outdated ways of thinking that limit our potential. He also presents “tomorrow’s destined ideas” which are counterintuitive now but will transform America in the coming years.
The book is divided into two parts. Part one discusses today’s dead ideas such as the belief that the kids will earn more than we do and that free trade is always good. Miller uses insights from history, psychology, and economics to explain how these dead ideas came about and why they are harmful.
Part two introduces tomorrow’s destined ideas which include universal healthcare, a carbon tax, and a national service program. Miller argues that these ideas may seem radical now but they will become mainstream in the future and will help to reinvigorate our economy, politics, and day-to-day lives.
