Alternative Atlanta by Marshall Boswell

Alternative Atlanta

Alternative Atlanta is a coming-of-age novel that explores the pain of growing up and the struggle to find one’s place in the world.

The story follows the life of protagonist, David, as he navigates his way through the music scene in Atlanta during the 1980s. David is a record store clerk who dreams of becoming a rock star, but finds himself stuck in a dead-end job and struggling to make ends meet.

The novel delves into themes of identity, friendship, love, and loss. David’s relationships with his friends and family are tested as he tries to balance his passion for music with the realities of adulthood. The book also touches on issues of race and class, as David grapples with his own privilege and the inequalities present in society.

What I Liked

Good novel. The story and characters were solid, but I really liked the setting. I read this before moving to Atlanta (i.e., the City of Atlanta) and I enjoyed reading about the people, places, and vibes in the city.

What I Did Not Like

Nothing – solid novel.
