We Live Like Royalty and Don’t Know It

YES. YES. YES. -> We Live Like Royalty and Don’t Know It

What a beautifully written post and a perfect reminder of how we absolutely can push harder for a better world…while feeling depths of gratitude and wonder for the world we live in. The series is worth subscribing to.

I mean, last week, I got to go to this place that has employed some of the most brilliant humans ever trained and deployed millions of dollars of capital to design and build…a giant machine that safely takes humans 300 ft. up in the air on a small train, just to let them drop and roll around (safely!) on a track at 70 mph to induce a rush of chemicals in the brain that feel great. And I got to ride on this ride – but 12 others as much as I wanted to for…$30. And all the while, everything from food, water, waste, safety, etc was just taken care of? How does that happen? It’s something to be grateful for.

And – I like how the post argues that understanding the world we currently have is necessary for figuring out how to improve it.

For example, I think that mitigating and adapting to rapid global warming should be a top priority for our politicians but I also think it’s useful to understand that carbon-based energy is in everything. There’s no switching over without costs that go beyond just money and capital. We have to actually build new stuff that is not sexy, fun, or fast. And that is a nice reminder to go through the not sexy, fun, or fast process of learning a little bit at least of why the world works the way it does.
