The Rooster of Ormewood Park, Atlanta

Ormewood Park Rooster

One of the best things about running the streets & neighborhoods of Atlanta is the cool things I come across. There’s always something interesting to see.

Ormewood Park is next door to my neighborhood of Grant Park. It has more of an urban hipster vibe. There are no historic regulations, and it has less of an established neighborhood vibe. So I was surprised, but also not surprised to come across this huge urban rooster on Confederate.

Right when I tried to take a picture of him – he belted out a ridiculously loud crow. I’m thinking now that a rooster wouldn’t just make an interesting pet, but would also make a good guard chicken to warn curious runners.

  • Mud Boiling at Lassen Volcanic National Park

At Lassen Volcanic National Park, I was surprised by just how volcanic it was, everywhere. And yes, I know it’s in the name. But I was not expecting lava rock to be everywhere and for all the lakes & springs to have a whiff of sulfur and boiling water to them. It feels like the Earth is genuinely alive & active beneath your feet (which, in fairness, it is..). Boiling Hot Springs Lake in the Warner Valley is a little off the beaten track, but we had it all to ourselves on a summer weekend.
