Murals in Cabbagetown, Atlanta, Georgia

Murals in Cabbagetown, Atlanta, Georgia 1

Years ago, the neighborhood of Cabbagetown in Atlanta had a graffiti problem. The northside of Cabbagetown abuts a huge railyard with a 10 to 20 foot tall concrete wall that runs more than 8 blocks.

It’s perfect for lots of graffiti.

Instead of trying over and over to stop it (to preserve a blank concrete wall), local artist Peter Ferrari persuaded the neighborhood to designate the wall as public art space for murals. The neighborhood launched the Forward Warrior mural contest that now attracts artists from around the world to paint murals along the wall in Cabbagetown.

The wall is one of my favorite sections to run in the City with dozens of huge, beautiful, interesting murals instead of an imposing wall.
