Bunker Hill
While visiting Boston, I got to walk up to Bunker Hill (i.e., the one battle that every American kid learns about from the US War for Independence).
- It’s much closer to downtown Boston than I expected – crazy how small and dense cities used to be.
- Even with all the buildings, it’s definitely a commanding position and obvious why you’d want to control it.
- Going to a famous place in the physical world is always different than I expect. However, it is funny how it’s even more meaningful in person.
- The monument commemorating the spot is huge.
- The battle itself is deeply ironic to this day – we lost the battle but won the war.
