3 Reasons Why Wikipedia Is Underrated 1

Everyone knows about Wikipedia. But 20 years after it started, it’s still underrated for just how big of a deal it still is.

No Ads

To me, Wikipedia is everything that the Internet can be and should be. There are no ads, no manipulation, no dark patterns, no nothing. There’s just the giving campaign at the end of the year. It’s simple, clean, and refreshing.

Wikipedia Is Efficient

I’ve downloaded all of Wikipedia onto my Mac. And it’s possible to download most of it onto your phone. Put yourself in the shoes of anyone 50 or 100 years ago. The idea that you could have nearly the sum of human knowledge in your pocket with nothing needed except a bit of battery power is nuts.

Wikipedia is Still Improving

Wikipedia has summaries of the news; articles on trending people and topics. It has figured out a way to do governance and consensus on the Internet. It’s messy and hard to get involved…but it’s a success in my book. Also, it’s still updating its bibliography to source new knowledge from new sources.
