Redwood Forest & Ecosystem

On my trip to Redwood National Park, I learned that the story isn’t really about the Redwood trees – it’s about the entire ecosystem, which is both under threat and at the center of conservation efforts today.

Redwoods were originally saved through the efforts of Save The Redwoods League, but the early focus was on individual trees, which created a paradox: whole forests were decimated while lone Redwoods stood untouched among the stumps. You can still find individual Redwoods scattered across Northern California for this reason. But Redwood National Park is different – it was founded specifically to protect entire ecosystems, not just the trees. And that’s exactly what you’re seeing along Redwood Creek – not just a grove of ancient trees, but an entire ecosystem, still worth fighting for.
