While traveling on the Pacific Coast side of Olympic National Park, there were frequent warnings about beach logs killing people.
Now, I’m from the East Coast. I know about widow-makers in the forest, but beach logs?
And then I went hiking on the beach…and yeah. There are thousands of **massive** Douglas Fir logs getting hurled up on the beach like Mother Nature *really* does not want you there.
Our National Parks (along with every other tourist destination) suffer from overcrowding. Even some places with infrastructure and thoughtful visitors…
Laura S. Walker State Park is a very underrated state park in Georgia. It is in between Waycross and the northern entrance of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Life Refuge. The park has lovely cabins, a great day use area, a beautiful lake, and the landscape is enchanting with pine trees and South Georgia flatwoods.
At every park around the country, there are thousands of picnic tables going unused and I have no idea why.
Boiling Springs Lake in Lassen Volcanic National Park is exactly what the name says. It’s absolutely fascinating to see. It’s accessed via a short hike up the Warner Valley. Also, the Pacific Crest Trail goes right by it!
Murder Creek is one of the last remaining examples of undisturbed, undeveloped bottomland forest in Georgia. It also has some…
