This is a photo of a MARTA train and a CSX Freight train running parallel at Hulsey Yard just east of Downtown Atlanta.
I took the photo from Oakland Cemetery. Interesting reminder of Atlanta’s roots as a transportation hub that continue even to this day.
Black Rock Mountain State Park in Georgia has some of the best overlooks in the state. Looking south, you can see far off, almost all the way to Atlanta. And looking north, you can see Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina. and into the Tennessee River Basin.
Slowly but systematically, Atlanta is becoming a better place to bike for transportation.
In the Southeast corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park, there are entire square miles of lava beds. They are so perfect and so beautiful in their starkness that they were literally called the “Fantastic Lava Beds”. There’s no hiking across them, but there are several excellent trail around and through them. In fact, the original California Trail goes around it.
Fall in Grant Park Atlanta, GA is always amazing. This photo is looking from the Milledge Triangle towards Constitution Spring…
The southern side of the Okefenokee is surprisingly open with few trees. It’s a water “prairie”.
Cottonwood Patch Campground is a Forest Service Campground in far north Georgia in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
