Post-American World by Fareed Zakaria

The Post-American World

The book, “The Post-American World” by Fareed Zakaria, argues that the success of the US in promoting free market capitalism and globalization has led to power being dispersed to several other countries.

Zakaria explains how the collapse of communism and the Soviet empire, as well as the rise of global markets, has leveled the playing field for many other countries around the world. He also highlights how America is starting to lag behind other countries in education, building a competitive workforce, and fostering new energy and digital infrastructure to support those workers, all markers of long-term economic growth. Zakaria calls for America to reconsider its global role now that other countries’ growing success is reshaping the world.

What I Liked

I loved all the things about this book. I read Zakaria in college and even though he’s since moved into the mass media system world of soundbites and interviews, he has smart ideas that deserve to be worked out in a book. Great read.

What I Did Not Like

Not a whole lot – the book is still relevant in 2023.
