Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life by Thich Nhat Hanh
Peace Is Every Step is a book about mindfulness and how it can help us find peace and joy in our daily lives. Thich Nhat Hanh, a world-renowned Zen master, spiritual leader, and author, provides exercises to increase our awareness of our own body and mind through conscious breathing, which can bring immediate joy and peace.
He also shows how to be aware of relationships with others and of the world around us, its beauty and also its pollution and injustices.
The book is organized into three key segments, with short chapters that are easy to read and understand. In the first segment, Hanh elaborates on the art of mindful living, including the concept of citizenship, connection with nature, ecology of mind, and reconciliation with others.
In the second segment, he discusses the importance of conscious breathing and smiling, and provides practical tips on how to apply them to our daily activities. In the third segment, Hanh introduces the concept of engaged mindfulness, which involves taking insightful action to help others and bring peace to our troubled world.
What I Liked
I think this is the best book by Hanh, who is a fascinating and incredible person. He has useful practices and ideas.
What I Did Not Like
Large parts of the book are repetitive…even though I think that’s on purpose. Otherwise, it’s a good, useful read.
