Exploring Mammoth Cave National Park by Johnny Molloy

Exploring Mammoth Cave National Park is a comprehensive guide to all the activities available in the 50,000-acre national park located in South Central Kentucky. The book covers both aboveground and belowground activities, including hiking, biking, scenic driving, camping, paddling, fishing, and caving.
The book also provides detailed information on the unique characteristics of Mammoth Cave, such as its subterranean cave formations called speleothems, which include stalactites, stalagmites, evaporites, helictites, gypsum formations, and travertine dams.
The book highlights the importance of Mammoth Cave, which preserves the world’s longest known cave system with over 400 miles of explored passages and an estimated potential for another 600 miles in its system. Beyond its scientific and recreational value, Mammoth Cave provides drinking water for approximately 40 percent of the U.S. population.
