The Okefenokee Swamp is a forbidding place and a place that I could not imagine living in. I can barely imagine camping there. But there were actually quite a few families, including Creeks, Seminoles, and European settlers who made life there. This picture is of the Chesser Island homestead where the Chesser family lived for many decades. It’s on a rise in the swamp above the water. and it was fascinating to visit.
I love seeing direct evidence of wildlife in the forest. This area had lots of evidence of beavers just working hard on their dams.

Whether you are hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Aprk, the Cohutta Wilderness of Georgia, or the Alleghenies of Pennsylvania, you’re probably going to run across some evidence of human civilization, even in deep forest that has been protected for 100+ years.
These are photos along Peter St in the Castleberry Hill neighborhood in Atlanta. Castleberry Hill is a really interesting neighborhood….
So lovely, peaceful, but full of energy, but also not the place to sunbathe.
