Whether you are hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the Cohutta Wilderness of Georgia, or the Alleghenies of Pennsylvania, you’re probably going to run across some evidence of human civilization, even in deep forest that has been protected for 100+ years. It’s wild to think how much development happened in the Eastern US…and how fast nature has recovered once we decided to leave portions of land alone.
