Crooked River State Park
Crooked River State Park is an absolute hidden gem in the Georgia State Park system. Though it is small, I believe only Vogel State Park can punch above Crooked River’s weight when it comes to acre-for-acre beauty, thoughtful planning, amenities, and an overall good experience.
Crooked River is centered along, well, a crooked river (the East River to be exact) —right as it’s flowing into the Georgia coastal marshes. The park boasts lovely cabins, trails, and hiking paths. With its excellent amenities, Crooked River makes for an incredible stay, not just on its own but also as a perfect base for planning day trips to Cumberland Island National Seashore and the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.
